For nearly 60 years, the United States has had an unnatural addiction to petroleum. A component in nearly every manufactured good or industrial process in America — from energy production to fertilizers, plastics, cosmetics, medicine, industrial lubricants and even food preservatives — the loss of petroleum would assuredly seize the American economic engine — perhaps, permanently.
